If you don't have style, don't flaunt it.

I understand that there are certain "classic" elements of fashion, but there is a very fine line dividing "classic" form "boring". Classic items are things to be thrown on when there is nothing else to wear but you still want to look half decent. You don't take a picture of your "classic" outfit and post it on a style website and pretend it's cutting edge. You just don't.

But the thing is, people do. Look at this.

I go to StyleDiary and StyleMob for fashion inspiration, not to see what somebody wore to work at their 9 to 5 office job. Business casual is BORING! I do not want to see boring passed off as classic. Nobody does. Boring is a boring does. Tan sweaters
and black turtlenecks are BORING!

That was a rant.

I hate flared pants. There. I said it. I hate them and will never wear them.

True true. Business casual is not the stuff of inspiration.

Don't be so quick to bash. I think there's elements of every outfit you can learn from. For example, girl in last photo? I will be reminded to wear a lightweight turtleneck, long necklace, and wideleg pants next time I'm lacking in ideas. The silhouette seems very flattering...

The name of the site itself reveals its purpose, it's a diary. The posters aren't necessarily posting for you to marvel at them.

If you really want inspiration look at editorials, crack open a magazine, visit websites where you know the photos taken are of people dressed to impress. (Facehunter at Boombox, Cobrasnake, etc.)

I've written you a mini novel, but I find it incredibly annoying that you should criticize.

I semi agree, although I find it pretty difficult to name any completely original outfit poster (Susie Bubble, maybe?). I mean I can admit that my style often leans towards gross hipsterish, and nothing I wear hasn't been worn before... But I definitely see what you mean. Boring work clothes are boring work clothes and that is that.

I can't be bothered to look at outfits like that. They're not bad; not bad at all! But they're not visually exciting and that's what I look for on websites like that.

Wow, harsh. Style is a tricky word. What style is to you may not be style to these women.

un-neccessary negativity much?
one thing to rant, quite another to repost someone elses photo to insult them.

what's stylish to one, may not be stylish to another.

yeah, I agree that is way harsh to make fun of those pics. If you don't like looking at people in their work outfits then dont look at them. Not everyone can wear legwarmers & suspender shorts to their day jobs. I normally like your blog so please remember "do unto others..." Happy Holidays.

the problem is that in the end, these are stylish for work outfits. compared to having to work an office job, where you can only dress business casual or have to wear an uniform...one day when youre older youll see.

and on top of that, for many people this is their inspiration. it'd be great if everyone could be a fuming icon, but for some they can barely handle basics and this is their "style"

Interesting conundrum, on one level it's not nice to repost someone's pic to criticise them - but they have chosen to put themselves out there and make themselves vulnerable to criticism, and it's a free world in the blogosphere so I say criticise away. Noone gets upset if you critise celebs or clothes on the runway. That's fashion and we have the right to be critical. I guess the question is where do you draw the line? I think it should stop at hate speech and this doesn't qualify as hate speech, so I'm supporting the hipster on this one, she has the right to be critical.

Aw..they're okay. Just keep moving if you don't like them. It's not like they look terrible, just ...um...like how I look most days!

Some people in other countries don't even have shoes nor clothes for every day life.

There are a lot more important things in life than just looking good or hipster-like.

People try too hard to be different when they really look like everyone else.

There are better things to improve on, such as virtue and character.
