I got a broken face.

The blistering heat that other bloggers have spent months complaining about already has finally reached my little corner of the world, and I've spent the past couple of days wearing as little clothing and drinking as much liquid as possible. I'm so thankful that it's only this hot for about a month each year - otherwise I would melt like the Wicked Witch of the West. So, does anyone remember a couple of years ago when these slipper/sandal/shoe thangs were the trendiest thing since sliced bread? They were about $2 a piece and came in every colour under the (too hot) sun. I found this red pair buried at the bottom of my shoe pile whilst trying to beat the heat and avoid wearing dreaded flip-flops. Even though the quality is nonexistent, I still find the sequin flowers and beaded leaves sort of charming. I'm going to wear these until they're broken, which shouldn't take too long.

I think you guys stole Vancouver's heat. Because it's been kind of cold here in the West coast. You are going into your second year of university this coming fall, yes? What do you want to study in grad school?

I totally remember those shoes! My friend had bought me a black pair from Chinatown and I think I wore them a total of once. I remember finding them really charming but I was never a sandal type (except in extreme or appropriate cases like when it's super hot or going to the beach, etc.).

P.S. Pixies reference?

In Texas it was over 100 every day for a few months, and now in England I find it very cold. but the cold is atleast better than the horrible heat.

LOL! I do remember! Well, if you go o a Hispanic area...you will see most older women wearing them. Personally not my style but some people can make them look good. If I didn't see them too much because since I am latino..I see a lot of people wearing them..I would think they were the coolest things alive! I am currently complaining of the hot weather now! 90 degrees where I am while I comment!

hahaha "even though the quality is non-existent..." they´re actually cute!
Here in Spain we have a famous brand of plimsoles called "Victoria" those are reaally cool, they used to cost like 3 euros or something, but since they´re ""fashionable"" they cost 16 euros!!!

IT´s INSANE!!!

I remember those slippers first being hot almost exactly 10 years ago -- I remember where I worked when I had a pair!

Hahaha, I've seen ladies early in the morning doing their shopping in slippers like those. Please tell me you're not wearing them out in public.
I think the heat makes us all care a little less about fashion.

I actually have the same pair in black. :) It was gifted to me a about 5 years ago by this old couple I used to live with, they were really sweet (like a nan and poppa to me) and you'd be surprised, I still use them as home slippers today. So that makes them 5 & half years old. Sure some of the beading has come off on the left foot... but not bad for a $2 pair! :)

And...

# I wish it was hot here. It's really cold in New Zealand. Spring is coming soon, though.

Yep, I had a white pair. I basically wore them every day for a whole summer. You can imagine what wearing a pair of cheap ($1) sandals for a whole summer does to them. I was 17, I think, and while they were sold at Walmart I found that I was one of the only people in my town to wear them. Fads happen slow in the 'Deen.

I bought a yellow pair three years ago when I was in Nassau. I had only packed flip-flops and got a blister where the thong goes, so I needed something to wear while it healed. I don't think I ever would have bought them otherwise, but I was glad I did. They /are/ charming. :)
