Spitting in a wishing well

"It's my new fucking haircut, and if bitches don't like it then they're fucking skanks..." Oh, the joys of Youtube. With that bit out of the way, yes I did get a new haircut and I'm pretty chuffed with the results (considering the unfortunate hack job I had before).

I'm heading up the 90s revival of 2009 in this getup - floral dress, cage heels and the Johnny Rotten sweater I knitted myself. Except that it looks and feels a lot more like angel hair than Johnny Rotten would ever want to admit.

My next knitting project will probably be the exact same sweater, just using black yarn instead of light pink. Damnit if this sweater is sold out, I'll just knit it myself!

The Breeders make life better. Crash, I'm the last splash!

P.S. -Going away for the weekend, be back Tuesday.

In folds of rags...

So I was poring over all the magazines I scored last weekend at my bff's yard sale and was absolutely awestruck by how LUELLA this editorial from a 2004 issue of Teen Vogue was. It's got the Ghost-World inspired Batman masks and everything! I can't believe this editorial is five years old and looks as fresh as it does. I'm impressed.

Sorry about the lame picture quality - my scanner has been malfuctioning lately, and my lame picture taking skills don't do it justice at all.

This girl is ULTIMATE. I need a blue bob. I need that vest. I need Vivienne Westwood Pirate boots. Are you choking on the epic-ness of it all, yet? I am considering quitting school and moving to Japan just to find out where she shops. Okay, not really. But this is still pretty ultimate.

If you're going to San Francisco...

It's not too often in your life that you're able to thrift a dress that makes you feel as good as Jackie O. looked. I found this 90s by way of the 60s dress at Value Village last weekend and couldn't wait to wear it! It fits like a dream, accentuates my waist and isn't even tight. Yes, this is pretty much my ultimate dress and was darn cheap too! It only cost me ten buckeroos.

I also amped up the 60s vibe by drawing on some "Alex from A Clockwork Orange" fake eyelashes. I never experiment with makeup (I still wear it, but am not particularly adventurous with it) because I don't care for the stuff much, but it turned out surprisingly well!

Raspberry Jam

On Saturday morning, I managed to drag myself out of bed really early so I could help my best friend with her garage sale. Running a garage sale is a lot of fun, but it's so much work! We were both completely exhausted by noonhour. But the best part of it all, was I got to keep a few things she had put out for sale for myself! I snagged the awesome asymmetrical ruffled tunic that I'm wearing today with tie-dye leggings along with a cute hat and some premium magazines. Yes, free stuff is definitely the best kind of stuff.

One of my secret loves is getting mail. I used to write all my friends snail mail letters when I was younger, and I still give people hand-written notes whenever it seems appropriate. And honestly, you don't even begin to appreciate mail until you go away to University, where any scrap of mail makes you jump for joy. But wait! This mail tirade is leading somewhere. I recently discovered the joys of online shopping and received this package in the mail on Tuesday. Oh happy joy!

-One pair of white jersey yoga pants
-One black jersey racerback dress
-One pair of tie-dye leggings (!)
-One cream jersey drape skirt

That's a lot of jersey.

I couldn't wait and wore the drape skirt to work yesterday! The polka dots, drapey-ness and the flat men's oxford brogues make for a sort of "smart, sensible girl whose notes you want to copy in class" sort of look. At least that's what I was going for. Art imitating life, perhaps?

You could learn a thing or two.

This morning I woke up and felt like channeling the silly young Mozart portrayed in the movie Amadeus. The ruffle shirt and button-up granny boots are probably the most 'period' pieces I own, even if they're not the right period at all! I feel like Mozart would appreciate the ruffles though. I first saw that movie in fifth grade music and absolutely hated it, but then had to watch it again another time (most likely in music class a few years later) and thoroughly enjoyed it. Looking back on it now, I actually really love that movie. Salieri is dead! Oh wait no, just in a mental institution.

Not like the others.

Yuck, I hate my hair so much that it's veering dangerously into "low self esteem" territory. Eek! I was finally broke down and scheduled a hair appointment for next Thursday, so it'll be quite a while before this ugly situation gets remedied. In the meantime, I've been browsing through cheesy hairstyle pictures and these were the only two styles that I found remotely appealing. Hmmmmm...

Please excuse me, I am having a "shoe moment". Are there support groups out there for people like me? Can somebody talk me through this?

Fashion Forestry

Ringo, Have A Banana

Am-lul's Closet

Jak + Jil

Yep, I love taking other people's pictures out of context. I would make a terrible journalist.

Leonard Cohen Afterworld

I bet you're probably wondering why I'm not wearing pants. Have I gone insane? Do I desperately want to be featured on the next installment of "Don't Show-cha Your Chocha"? Nay nay, friends. Jean shorts are here to save the day, not to mention my dignity.

It's not much of an outfit (literally), but who needs one when you're busy reading The Great Gatsby, knitting, eating pie and just being a bum in general.

Topshop's got me in a tizzy.

"Oh hi there, Topshop A/W 09 Lookbook! I don't believe we've met before. But I do declare, you're looking mighty fine. Perhaps we should get to know each other a little better?"

These are a few of my favourite things...

Cream colored ponies and crisp apple streudels? More like Kurt and Courtney. Pictures nabbed from White Lightning, because she rules.

Ghost World by Danny Brito. (Tip off from Anna, thanks love!)

Wedgwood China. Perhaps a signal of my aging is a newfound interest in beautiful yet expensive antique dishes...

Hours and Hours

I spend my days at work singing along to the Breeders in my head and daydreaming about Vivienne Westwood Pirate Boots. Somebody please buy these so I don't have to?

So I bought this crazy asymmetrical batwing cape thingamajig from Babooshka Boutique on Etsy, and I'm not gonna lie, I'm slightly disappointed. The v-neck is massive and it feels like I'm wearing a really wide crop top (ewww. As much as I like the whole "overdramatic draped look" on other people, this piece is sort of steering me away from experimenting further with that look on myself. Perhaps I can convince myself that it's an inexpensive version of Comme des Garcons?

At least I have this H&M star print dress I got for free at a swap meet and my super cheap clearance rack Aldo heels to cheer me up!

Just a funny funny funny sound.

I just had the most wonderful weekend of the entire summer - no internet, completely unfashionable, good friends, good times. All in all, I can't wait to move back to school in September. And I can pretty much recite all of Crack Fox while intoxicated.

[Bad candid pic of me with squinty eyes and Alex with a pornstar mustache.]
So I went thrifting last week, and haven't shown you what I bought yet because of the restrictive office dress code. Sooooo, I decided that show-and-tell through an outfit post was necessary. I bought this 80's shirt with a gold leaf applique on the shoulders, worn with a gold AA lah-may skirt.

...and this massive shoulderpadded menace. Sequins and lace - what more could the tacky drag queen living inside of me want? I'm wearing this outfit right now and I want to wear it all the time.

Go on, take everything.

This is what I wore to work today: werkin' the batwing top, bow skirt and cage sandals. The skirt is vintage YSL Rive Gauche and the first (and only) investment designer piece I've ever bought. It's incredibly special to me, so it doesn't get worn out all that often. I know it's stupid to not wear the things you love, but it's so difficult to wear and tear the pieces you cherish.

Then I went home and changed into THIS:

Do you know what ecstasy feels like? (Not the drug). Because I'm pretty sure it feels like these floral leggings that just arrived in the mail from iheartnorwegianwood. I've been wanting to buy something from Angie's Etsy shop for ages, but I'm just not a "cage skirt" kind of girl. But when I saw these leggings go up for sale, I knew they were it!

I'm utterly in love - they were worth every penny!

On a final note, I'm going away for the weekend and will be computerless so don't expect much from me until Sunday.
