I Depend on Me

Schoolwork continues to pummel the life out of me, so here is another ‘outfit dump’. When I look at these pictures of three outfits that I have worn over the past week, I am almost alarmed by how schizophrenic my personal style actually is. The first look I had to wear to work, so everything is American Apparel (for those who asked; yes, AA employees are obliged to wear head-to-toe AA while in the store).

Perhaps I feel oversexed by my job, and so my ‘go-to’ rebellion happens to be dressing like a complete Grandpa. The cardigan, the button-down shirt, the pleated pants and the men’s brogues: androgyny at its weirdest.

The last outfit I wore out to a bar for my friend’s birthday. I was purposefully going for ‘hipster redneck trash’ with the plaid shirt, AA disco pants and FUBAR-inspired crop top.

How is it even possible for one person (namely me) to feel equally comfortable in all of these outfits? I either have multiple personality disorder or am just a really gifted actress.

My favorite is the first outfit!

Even though all of the outfits that you wear are so diverse, they are still distinctly "Isabel".
It's hard to explain, but they all seem like you and I can't imagine those combinations on anyone other than yourself.
It just signifies that you are a complex person and that you don't conform to one particular style.

i love it when you dress like a complete grandpa.

I love all of this!
But I'd have to say the hipster redneck trash outfit is my favorite.
Crop tops and disco pants ftw! :D

Your outfits always look great! I wish I had multiple disorder outfits, but it takes money for that. :P Please share your disorder! :B

They are all very cute! I always wonder if stores that make you dress in only their clothing make you pay for it too. It seems pretty lame that you would have to buy a bunch of clothing on the salary they pay, even if you get a discount. I know I only own 2 pairs of leggings, maybe you had more to start with......just wondering.

Haha, I do love that second outfit. I'd totally wear it; I love dressing like a grandpa.

Uhh, I sound weird.

Say, I've got a question: do you actually have to buy the AA clothes you wear to work? I walked in my local AA yesterday to see if they were hiring (so so poor) and they took several pictures (which I thought was odd) and my number. I felt like I was being set up for a date instead of a possible job. Anyways, I was just wondering if you "borrow" the AA clothes for work outfits or if you actually have to buy them.

According to Jung, our personalities are made up of different archetypes that have been ingrained into the collective unconscious of humanity, and the combination of those archetypes influences us and our behavior. And probably our fashion choices too :)

I have a hard time rationalizing my diverse styles as well. It comes down to this. I am not dressing for completely different PERSONALITIES. I am dressing for different MOODS within the same personality. And that is how I stopped worrying about it.

You look really pretty in the first outfit.
I sort of have a slightly bipolar style- one day I'll be in all bright colours, and look about 6, and then another I'll be all in black and look like an wannabe emo. So I understand what you mean.
It does sometimes make things a little difficult when you've run out of clean washing and have nothing that goes together!

First and Foremost!

GREAT OUTFITS!

i love the second look a lot and the fact that you call it your "grandpa" look.

The question that you asked about either having multiple personalities or being a great actress I would much rather think of your style and my own as a "chameleon" because we are able to change our style and outfits to match what surrounds us or even how we feel inside. I hope that it makes sense and in a way helps you describe your style.

I can imagine how tough your school work must be and I am taking ever advantage of my time from now till august because Ill probably be going through the same as you!

I love all of the outfits, but especially the first one. You look so much more interesting than any AA employee I've ever seen!
Also, you've inspired me to crack out my own pair of disco pants more often. I've been neglecting them.

All amazing, I think the grandpa outfit my be my face though!
I also love to dress in utterly different styles, I think it's just a mood thing really and is way more interesting then always dressing the same wat.

Ahh schoolwork stress, know what you mean. I like the outfit dumping though, and all of these are great, the first being my personal favourite. I like your AA rebellion!

Also, I have no idea why you're not on my blog roll. This must be remedied at once.

i love your grandpa outfit, it's super swish. dressing head to toe in AA can't be bad thing, right? x

I dunno... I mean, I definitely see continuity here. The silhouettes are different, but... maybe it has something to do with your use of color (sparingly) and old-man/hipster references.

My favorite is the last one! I love that top!
And you're not schizofrenic. (right?) You used have an unique style that can't be expressed in simply one outfit. I sometimes resemble something of a ballerina, and then the next day I look more like a hobo.

I love the style of elderly people ! It's one of the funnest - yet comfiest - modes of characters!
I totally know what you mean by having different characters. Sometimes, I even plan out my outfits to reflect certain creatures/fictional characters, such as pirates and lumberjacks.

love the 2nd outfit for sure. that sweater is adorable.
Also the lace pullover from AA is a beauty, I have it too! Are they telling you guys that your not allowed to wear cardigans? My district manager came in and told us we can't wear them anymore ;/// and also I can't put them on the mannequins blah
