Cranberry Locket

The concept of tumblr leaves a bad taste in my mouth. TO me, it represents the one-second attention span that everyone in my generation who grew up using the internet seems to have. I much prefer to sit down and absorb a few paragraphs of genuine honest commentary, rather than be visually assaulted by a stream of pictures lacking context. That said, I do have a bad habit of saving tons of pictures to an inspiration folder and sometimes I feel like sharing the love. Maybe this would be easier if I had a tumblr and could 'reblog' at will, but I would rather subject you to my commentary. So here are a bunch of pictures that mean something to me, though I'm not quite sure what. Now go read a book.

I must agree with you. Its like the people who quickly walk through art mueseums, not stopping to take in the WHOLE painting.

I love the inspiration sharing ♥ but don't worry, I'm spending my weekend reading Xénophon's account on Sparta's Constitution. Nerdy enough? I like to think so :)

I feel exactly the same way about Tumblr... to me it's almost as bad as when fashion bloggers post 100 picture of themselves in the same outfit, or when new parents subject you to 100 naked pictures of their children. Ugh!

OMG, Candy necklace bow tie! *_*

And I agree 100%, the whole Tumblr thing kind of annoys me. I would much rather have a huge folder of random pictures that I could post with some commentary (in my case, ridiculous rambling.) than a never ending page of re-blogs.

I must admit - I'm guilty of an inspiration folder, too.

These are all real sweet, especially the grungey love.

i just love this, and i 100% agree with you. i prefer to steer clear from tumblr just because i get so easily overwhelmed - there are so many beautiful things out there, it's almost frightening.

these are great. i like how your brain works.

I think Tumblr goes to different sensibilities.

I like using my blog for heavily text based arguments, with relatively few pictures and links.

I started Tumblr because Ir ealized it would be great way to share everything I randomly fall upon on the Internet.

Whereas your blog is primarily fashion and you need pictures to convey what you want to say, it would be completely silly for you to have both a Tumblr and blog for the same subject.

sweeeeeet pictures girl. I feel the same way. I have thousands of pictures on my computer, I probably save 50+ a day. it upsets me to think I hardly consider the individual beauty of each one, but I take comfort in the fact that I will "appreciate them when I'm older" ... I sound so maternal!

Maybe if you check out http://fuckyeahchristophwaltz.tumblr.com you'll change your mind... ;) the man is gorgeous!

I understand what you mean about Tumblr, but I love it anyways... it's like an instant inspiration sugar rush!

I LOVE THE BEAR SPRAWLED ACROSS THE WORLD, AS IF HE OWNS IT OR SOMETHING.
Well, he does. I mean, it eats honey, berries, and fish. Of course he does.

And I love Tumblr, but I see what you mean. I use my blog as my... neat, refined, perfectionist space for ranting, while my Tumblr is for the little things that brighten my day. :)

DITTO. i really don't like the idea of tumblr either, there's no meat, just pretty pictures. that being said, the photos are genuinely inspirational.

I love everyone of these pictures. Upon first glance they are simply wonderful, but then you keep looking and you see all these amazing details.

I am a fan of the commentary as well, I have to say!

That turquoise room looks like a dream - I love it.

Adoring the photos - especially Depp & Moss. They look entirely devoted to each other in the photo. And don't worry - I'm currently reading Beautiful Dreamer. It's wonderful.

That candy bow tie would not last 2 seconds on my shirt! The barnacled guitar makes me sad in a very unexpected way.

I use my tumblr as a blog. I just love the format of it and how easy it is to use. I also find it nice to view other tumblrs that do the one-off, no commentary thing because you can see everyone who liked it and reblogged it and commented on it. For me, it's like a community in its own way.

it also pisses me off when people post tons of pictures without any context, but not all tumblrs are like that. you just have to find the good ones!
i use tumblr, and i certainly recommend it if you want to keep all of the music and art stuff that inspires you in one place. there's definitely nothing wrong with writing a paragraph or two along with the pictures, music, and whatever else that you post.

I so agree with you on the reading bit. I am in love with words so I quite enjoy reading rather than being bombarded by images and a lack of words. Mind you, I adore photography, but when coupled with words. Excellent post, dear! xoxo

I like Tumblr with weird themes but most fashion ones are kind of..meh. I appreciate it when people put their inspirations into contexts, even a few words is enough.

I've never been able to really get in to Tumblr. There are a few that I check now and then, but I much prefer reading actual blogs! I like reading about the inspiration behind people's outfits and about blogger's weekends! That's part of the fun! :D

Glad to read this -- I thought I just disliked Tumblr because I'm old.

Hear hear on the tumblr opinion! I can't get into it either.. you're right, it's an instant fix of loveliness, not real substance. Long live blogs like yours which has observant and interesting commentary alongside beautiful images! :) Claire ♥

I can get that but actually I'd prefer not to read some random persons thoughts and just let the images speak for themselves and take my own meaning from them.
