Do you ever feel creatively stifled when you can’t wear EXACTLY what you want? Usually I love a challenge, like taking something ugly and incorporating it into an interesting outfit but when you have to dress a certain way almost every single day I almost want to give up! Last summer, I worked an office job and I had to dress ‘business casual’. Sometimes I managed to come up with cool outfits, but most of the time it was subtle variations on button-down shirts and black pants. The problem is, it didn’t feel like ‘me’. Now that I have to dress myself entirely in one brand for work, it’s even more difficult to inject bits of my personality into daily outfits. I bought this scarf in hopes that weird tie-dye will jazz up my outfits a bit more, and inspire me back into the blogworld.

Speaking of blogworld, last Friday I attended the Worn Fashion Journal Issue 10 launch party! It was a ridiculously excellent time just jivin’ on the dance floor to all the 60s music, as well as meeting so many familiar faces (Hi Anna, Hannah, Kevin and Stephanie!!) I wish there was a good picture of my outfit but I look like a crazed swamp creature in every single one.

you left so soon i didnt even get to say bye! sad!
it was a fun night and i think you looked great in all the pictures. Your outfit was awesome (sequins!). Anyway, the photobooth pictures should be out next week so start looking forward to that.
I would hate to have to wear all one brand (no matter how much I liked that brand) because yes, it would make me feel stifled. I do love that lace shirt though.
'Crazed swamp creature'... that sounds familiar... nearly every photo of me looks like that!
I always thought working in a shop where you have to wear their clothes would be difficult. Because however much you love their clothes, there's only so many of them you can afford.
But I think you're doing a great job!
scarf=amazingness. i always try to incorporate scarves into my outfits but it turns out looking like I have a giant noodle hanging off my neck. Ahwell.
sweet scarf! and I just ordered an issue of Worn- my first one, I hope it's as awesome as it sounds!
i love your outfit, the scarf is very sunshine and shadow!
i have hte hardest time looking interesting during the summer.
Ordered me some glasses just like yours today :) I really dig your style, very fresh/young :)Following you now..
PS. Much admiration all the way from India :)
haha I'm sure you don't look like a swamp creature! and I'm amazed how you can make the criteria of 'business casual' work in the old posts, I've been told the same thing before and I just looked like...Angela from the Office, but more prissy.
I wish I was still living in NY, where I could buy like shoes for $3 at Marshalls. ): That made it much easier to get inspiration...
OKAY, YOUR TIE-DYE SCARF IS SOOO COOOL.
And how do you manage to wear all one brand!? //beyond amazed.
I love that skirt. I have one similar to it. I wore it several days ago and got many comments on how "unusual" it was. Truth is, too many of the people surrounding me were sporting destroyed tight denim minis, the kind of skirt American Eagle pushed several years ago. Your inspiration keeps me going.
The scarf looks awesome :)
Your outfit was AWESOME on Friday. So good to meet you, too. And about job uniforms... Watch for my nail polish post on the WORN blog soon. Keep up the outfit posts!
xx
I like the scarf, have to say. And I think it would be challenging to ONLY wear AA all the time for work. I am thinking of applying there when I move to Winnipeg though..
JEALOUS that you went to the Worn Party! If I had still been in London I would've made my way there for sure, but it's a bit of a trek from PEI haha I am so excited to get my next issue
true dat. AA is a great place for basics, but then what? Hey, what about getting a plain AA T and then art-ifying it up? or customizing things? or is that against the rules for wearing to work...
I sort of want to apply to my local AA. hmm....
haha I completely understand this! Love th outfit though!
x
i love worn! it's such an interesting magazine! great homegrown canadian talent! great outfit, i love you glasses!

I work at an American Apparel in socal, as a keyholder for 2 yrs. I know how hard it is to try and be "brand" and still have your own personality to it. check out one of my recent blog entries! it features the 3D flower jumper.

The scarf gives to right amount of pop to your outfit. I also love your AA lace top.
I hate having to "dress the part" in order to fulfill certain obligations as an employee. That's why I don't work. I mean, when has working overtaken our lives and started siphoning out our personalities? Seems so backwards to me. I'm glad you regained yourself working at AA.
I don't know how you manage with only AA, but you look different yet still "you" in every outfit you post. It's seriously admirable since I have been feeling creatively lackluster lately. Using alliteration subconsciously is a symptom of this creative block. I want to be sartorially sensational! Yet I've been feeling more like an old Polish woman lately and not in a good way. Oh! And I really love the sheer lace. It's snazzy, sexy, sleazze. MY GOD I NEED TO STOP.
cutest outfit :))
Lovely outfit and i love your shoes! Where are they from?
I really like your blog by the way-you have a new follower :D xxxxx
I love your outfit! You look great!
SO KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN.
Kind of.
I mean, I have to wear a uniform at school and it's so static. I get in so much trouble because, apparently, (example from today) a pink bangle "detracts from the uniform." GAHHH.
Conformity is suckish.
Thanks so much for stopping by! Haha, yeaaa! I'm inhabited in good, ole Guelph :/! High five for recognizing it?!

nice post, keep blogging... have a happy week...
The beauty of a sonnet comes from finding creativity within restraint American Apparel is just your iambic pentametre and regular rhyme scheme.
I definitely like the tie-dye scarf.
I know how you feel. I've been working at AA for the past few months and i feel so boring!
ooohhhh the new Worn cover looks so pretty!
