Colour Bars

Yesterday I took on the gargantuan task of NOT looking like a cheap goth in my black lace dress. Stretchy black lace is usually best left to reruns of the 90s show Charmed, but I like it a lot and wanted to give it a new lease on life. So I paired it with brown vintage t-strap shoes and a flowery headband. This is also the most form fitting outfit I think I have ever worn in my entire life.

I also found the time to do some thrifting this week! Everything I unearthed from the depths of Value Village had an awesome print on it. Soon I will not be able to match a single piece in my entire wardrobe.

Finally found a sunflower dress! It really needs to be hemmed but I adore it.

The bow shirt is Dian Von Furstenburg and cost me $7.99! What a deal! It's about ten sizes too big though.

Preppy florals.

Grunge florals.

David Bowie shirt! Maybe I'll turn it into a crop top?

oooh girl! great finds. in my hometown vv is called "savers" and every monday they pick one tag color to be on sale for $1, does that happen nationwide or just in my hometown? you should check on that cause it's pretty fantastic.

good job on making the gothy dress look summery, too. I can't imagine anyone moping around a mall while looking that cute.

I really love the bow-tie shirt. It looks perfect for lazing around the house (until you take the sides is, perhaps?)

That sunflower dress is just so perfect~
Have a great day!

such great thrift finds! kudos for making the lace dress interesting, i don't know about in the US but for about the last 6 months almost every girl here has been sporting variations of that dress and they just look like clones.

You Succeeded in elevating the black dress; avoiding any mallgoth tarnish and adding some sophistication and season.

Great floral finds! I love your two-piece lace dress.

It's still kind of goth-reminiscent, but in a sophisticated and classically sexy way. Like, Bauhaus as opposed to mall goth.

Wow you're so lucky on those thrift finds, especially the david bowie tee. I also think you pulled off black lace pretty well, seeing as you don't look like some trampy emo.

Lizz said...

wow those were amazing finds! I love the diane von furstenberg print. And I think you rocked out the black lace very well and not like a trashy goth at all.

Yes, yes, yes to the crop top suggestion!
Make it even more, uh "reh-troh."

I hope you don't not do it now that I said that, or because I said it gives a certain effect, or I'm just saying this because it might apply to my decisions and you can ignore this last mini rambling. :)

Loving the bow top!!

Well woman, you did it cause you don't look like a black bandaged hoe at all. I have a really similar dress in white, so it's even harder to pull off. The head wrap is a perfect compliment, seriously.

Found your blog through Tavi's Toronto post. I love Value Village too, find I either come away with nothing, or a giant bag of stuff. I have two of those David Bowie t-shirts--they were selling them at the Gap for $6 a couple of years ago because apparently no one but me wanted to buy them!!

Oh all these great finds! My favourites are the sunflower dress because they remind me of Van Gogh, the bow shirt because I just really like bows and the Bowie shirt because Bowie is fierce!

I also adore your outfit. The dress and shoes are gorgeous!

love how you transformed the lace dress from potentially skanky to something so classy with a touch of sexiness.

you definitely had a good day at the thrift store! the DVF top is really pretty!

Ya, great founds, I especially love that sunflower dress I'm looking for one, too.

Think the dress looks good and not gothic-like at all, I wouldn't have thought about gothics if you haven't said that.

Please don't turn this Bowie Shirt into a croptop, it looks amazing!
Think as a crop top it would become a bit boring..

i have the same AA lace dress in ivory. its crazy to me that such a simplistic dress looks completely different depending on who's wearing it and how they are wearing it.
