Scissor Lady

I managed to find the ultimate pair of mom jeans at a thrift store last week! Usually mom jeans are horribly uncomfortable, but this pair actually fits like a dream and is just the right combination of akward and unflattering. I roughed them up with sandpaper to make some holes in them too. They looks perfect paired with my H&M peter pan collar shirt and thrifted drama shoes.

I was going for 'meadow fairy princess' in the hair department today, but it somehow ended up looking more 'Edward Scissorhands'.

Living in the mainstream is such a lame dream.

Paisley and earth tones aren't normally my thing, but I found the peter pan collar and buttons too adorable to pass up on this dress. I bought it from Jayne's blog shop and its H&M. Not surprising that the last thing I bought from her blog shop was also an H&M dress with numerous buttons!

I added my garage sale cameo brooch because it matched so perfectly.

Croc Docs never fail me.

Long, Long, Long

So the entire week before Halloween is officially "dress-up in costume" at American Apparel. Can you guess what I went as?

YUP. A goth. There was black lipstick involved. Let's just say it's really a good thing I didn't throw out that pyramid stud cuff leftover from my grade nine mall punk days. I also don't own a crucifix necklace, so I went with a Star of David in keeping with the 'subversive religiosity' theme.

Everyone else had the cutest costumes on Monday, so I am sharing some of my favourites.

Jenn as Snow White

Raena as the Tooth Fairy

Joel as a Sea Captain (note the corn cob pipe)

Cass as Tinkerbell

Stylelikeu: Nicole Youngblut

Sometimes instead of studying, I find myself wandering aimlessly on the internet only to stumble upon something amazing! I've heard of Stylelikeu videos before, but it took me a while to actually get around to watching them. Some of these people have the most amazing wardrobes and style philosophies! The gal I felt most kinship with was Nicole Youngblut, who has the most perfect spectator brogues and sparkly items in her closet. SCREEN CAP TIME!

Endless inspiration.

This is unquestionably my favourite outfit I have worn in sooo long! The pleated skirt was bought on one of my very first thrifting excursions, most likely even before the advent of this blog (so many moons ago). I bought it because it reminded me of rich old ladies who wear pearls and go for afternoon tea, but never wore it because of the awkward length. It sat in my sewing pile, waiting to be hemmed into a miniskirt and I am so happy that I never got around to chopping it, because now this awkward length is the best thing ever!

Worn with a heinous men's XL DIY crop top and high heel Doc Martens.

California Dreamin'

Ugh, for some reason whenever the weather turns cold I lack the simple ability to get out of bed - much less put together a decent outfit! I always end up reaching for this huge circular pullover because its so cozy on the inside and I can snuggle up inside it because I'm pretty much wearing a blanket. Tried to make up for it by wearing my classy high-heeled Doc Marten's to school for the first time.

At least it's Hallowe'en season, so I can find cheap, stupid and amazing gloves at the dollar store!!

Oh yeah, and I almost forgot about this whole wearing purple business in solidarity with LGBT rights. Represent tolerance... And Black Flag!

Marfan Syndrome

Today's look marks the true arrival of GOTH JAMS 2010! It's cold and windy outside, almost Hallowe'en and the witch vibes are in full force. Over a year ago, I swore I would never wear a maxi skirt but I'm eating my words now. The American Apparel full-length chiffon skirt is a miracle on my mini-frame. I completely wore through the soles of my witchiest Victorian boots a few months ago, but now they are back in action and ready to work magic.

Check my tumblr for more goth jams-piration.

Onkel Hans

I was definitely rocking the comfy look on Friday when I paired a thrifted floral shirt with classic grandpa pants. The Walrus magazine is courtesy of the "Walrus Best Dressed" competition. I submitted this pic because whoever wins it gets a lifetime subscription! Last night I went to OKTOBERFEST which is a really huge deal in the K-W area - apparently its the biggest Oktoberfest in North American, and second in the world only to Munich?! Lots of beer was consumed and polka music was danced to. Rejoice!

Month of May

When I returned home to the country last weekend, my mom pulled out the most wonderful antique blouse from a stash in the basement to give to me. It has the most delicate buttons, pintuck pleats and a nerdy collar aka love at first sight! Today I'm wearing it an American Apparel pique skirt and floral granny tapestry shoes.

Between writing papers on oppressive femininity, applying for a new passport, obsessively listening to the Arcade Fire and doing Regis Philbin impressions, I found the time to take some narcissistic face shots. This is what I look like without glasses!

Weird, right? That's more like it.

Sunday Inspiration

Soundtrack: Pretty much anything off The Suburbs by Arcade Fire, plus some 60s music and slow jams.

Wishing everyone a peaceful, beautiful Canadian Thanksgiving!

Oh! It comforts me.

First order of business: what do we think of the new layout? My pictures were getting cut off with the old black layout, and I am html-handicapped so I just decided to change things altogether. Also, I enjoy books.
The main purpose of this outfit is to show off the new/old Pendleton scarf I bought on eBay! I am in utter adoration of how beautiful Navajo prints are, and I thought the colours were great too. It totally matches my floral quilted jacket!
Do you think it would be overkill if I paired the scarf with my fifty-cent thrifted Navajo print skirt??

This leopard print shirt is probably big enough to fit three of me inside - imagine the trouble the last time i wore it, tucked into pants! Today I'm letting it all hang loose, with a little help from my friend the waist belt. Confession: I was going to wear this outfit with my croc Docs so I could be super down with the animal kingdom, but for the first time in my life I thought Doc Martens looked weird with the outfit. I think I need to go to boot rehab.

Boy-Girl Revolutionaries

Disturbing true fact: I have been wearing this dress non-stop every day for the past four days. It seamlessly transitions me from shifts at work to silly parties, and makes for some cozy pajamas too. Seriously. The horizontal stripes work well with the faux-French persona I've been acting out lately, y'know with my french braid and all. Developing a crippling cigarette addiction and listening to jazz (instead of Her Jazz) is one step down on the list.
