I think it's that they're more interesting perhaps? love this post :)
why are you only posting white women? you claim to be a feminist, but as common for many modern feminists, leave women of color out of the equation.
I listened to pj harvey once on an interview. she struck me as
a) pretentious
b)self absorbed
great selection
... reminded me I've got to check
out Bridez

Kay is original, I've never heard of her before! Thanks for sharing the list...I'm a Courtney fan as well.
I think Tavi Gevinson would make a cool addition too, and the Daria cartoon which used to be on MTV
Looking forward to more wierdness.

@ anonymous: isabel's list of all-white females isn't necessarily a rejection of feminism per se. there's a big difference between a list of cultural inspirations, and a list of feminist heros. i hardly think wednesday addams (a fictional character picked because she's she's quirky) and a black feminist like, Barbara Smith, are comparable.
if i were to pick my 4 top surrealist artists from the 1920s - they'd be all white. i'm not consciously neglecting the work of artists who happen to be coloured. i'm merely picking those that, at a particular point in time, appeal most to me.
there is a tendency in western feminist discourse to focus on white women . but i don't think this post is a reflection of this trend. at all.
