A continued huge thank you to my roommate Jess, who has been responsible for my outfit pics as of late. She has a legendary habit of wearing two different coloured socks, and it always brightens up my day.

Thrill of It
This post is alternately titled: "What I Wore To Go See Black Swan In Theatres for the Second Time." Classic granny floral button-down shirt. funky granny sequin cardigan and a more age-appropriate knit pencil skirt. Holy crap, looking at these pictures makes me realize how badly I need to clean my room.
In other exciting news, check out the amaaaazing Morrissey tie-dye shirt that Marlena hand screen-printed for me! She is the unequivocal master of do-it-yourself. I never thought tie-dye could be better than it already is, but then you slap a Morrissey graphic on it and everything becomes so much better!
90s Drew Barrymore is clearly my tie-dye soul sister alter ego.
Marlena also made me a fantastic lavender peter pan collar with its own Courtney Love hanger!! I would wear it but it looks too perfect just casually decorating my wall, y'know? Thanks so much, lady!
I also bought a cheapie Hole necklace off eBay to cement my Courtney groupie-dom... Yay!

Out of this Place
Many thanks for the help of my lovely blog interns/roommates for taking my outfit pictures and keeping the dream alive! First world problems here, without a functional tripod... Anyways, I never thought I would ever find myself dressing like some sort of Canadian Ralph Lauren sportswear enthusiast, but here I am mixing cable knits with plaid. I'm wearing a lobster pin and a Canadian flag pin too!
Oh, and if my transformation into an incense-burning, evile eye-wearing hippie wasn't totally complete yet... I bought wooden earrings. Yes, those wooden earrings. And I kind of love them too?

Ain't Born Typical
Ok, so why is it that I only start liking the 'cool indie bands' like 3 years after they first appear. IIt seems natural that I would be into a band like The Kills with a stylish, badass lady as lead singer but I was soooooo not into them back in 2008. I guess my musical tastes were clouded by too much Minor Threat/Bikini Kill back at age 18 because I am totally feeling them right now. Being late on the bandwagon is pretty much the perfect example of the 'first world problems' of white indie kids, no?
Also, today is definitely a day where the legendary phoenix sweater is happening. I didn't feel like wearing pants today so thigh-high socks it is!

Wrong Tracks, Honey
Today I have no plans in the best kind of way, so I'm just going to spend the day make-up free, hairdo-free and hangover free. An occasion such as this clearly calls for wearing the Dainty Librarian laser cat sweatshirt that kind of matches the world map on my wall, with grey Cheap Monday jeans.
On my brief sojourn outside, I encountered a product that changed my life. That product is a CREME EGG CHOCOLATE BAR. My affinity for Cadbury creme eggs during the Easter season has been well-documented in the past, and the idea of eating them year round is making me positively giddy!

Last Day of Magic
Due to a malfunctioning tripod, today's outfit photos are brought to you by my kitchen, roomie photographer and the letter H. I guess I'm going for the innocent sailor lady look with the horizontal stripes and full skirt, but PEEKABOO there's secret badass nebula leggings hiding under those good girl knee socks. My outfits are like a box of chocolate, you never know what you're going to get?
Also, learning different forms of hair braids is an arduous and experimental process. But they actually turned out kind of nice today! Huzzah!

Leni Riefenstahl
Shocker of the Century: it's cold outside. And when it's cold outside, I have a disgusting tendency of wearing the warmest, baggiest clothing items available paired with indestructible Doc Martens and giving little thought to the image that I project. I might look like a total slob but hell, at least it's authentic! This outfit is kind of a happy medium between decency and laziness, with the nice button-up plaid shirt with a massive sweater on top.
Ok, homework or Napoleon Dynamite??

Blooming Cherry Trees
As you can see, I'm getting pretty serious about the goth jams this winter! There's like a foot of snow and it's fun dressing up like a severe existensialist who wears only Comme des Garçons. Plus it's kind of nice juxtaposing all of this white snow with a cloud of black, and I also dressed more colourful than a candy wrapper last night so I have an excuse...
As you can see, I found an evil eye necklace to wear! Maximum protection against evil spirits and also way less tired imagery than inverted crosses or triangles.

Meteorite, Devoid of the Light
Ok, so wouldn't it be great if big tv moguls came up with a show like American Idol, except called 'Internet Idol'?? Not really, and I don't even own a tv but I am decidedly obsessed with an internet-famous girl the same age as me named Molly Soda (is that even her real name?). She has the raddest vibrant blue hair with baby bangs, wears a shit-ton of make-up with bindis, goes to ART SCHOOL, really loves her pet rat and lives in NYC. Total girl crush, duh.

Sisyphus
The dream of the 90s is alive not just in Portland, but it my outfit. Empire Records-inspired fuzzy t-shirt, with a weird plaid skirt, leopard tights and my omnipresent brown Croc Docs paired with dark lipstick and unbrushed hair. Also, I'm starting to get into incense and I think I want to buy one of those 'evil eye' knecklaces, y'know what I'm talking about?

Mad World
Every so often, someone sends you a gift that is perfect in every way. When Sunshine (what a beautiful name!) of Blog Full of Jelly offered to send me what she described as a vintage 'Winona Ryder' dress, I knew I was in for a treat - yet I was still surprised by the utter perfection of this dress. Lace peter pan collar, awkward hem length and fits like a dream. Of course I had to channel Winona Forever by pairing it with my new stomping boots. Thank you so much, Sunshine!!
Collecting pictures of peter pan collar dresses is becoming some sort of fetishistic obsession for me.

First Communion
Righty-ho, back on the bandwagon! So I have finally managed to reunite with my precious friends and get back into the real groove of things. The past week has mainly has consisted of:
1. Listening to Gang Gang Dance and Joanna Newsom relentlessly
2. Eating candy
3. Thinking about Black Swan (and how fantastic it was)
4. Oh yeah, going to class!
Also, I was published in the most recent issue of Alternatives Journal, Canada's Environmental Magazine. They saw my commentary on Steven Meisel's photographic interpretation of the BP Oil Spill and decided to include it in the water-themed issue! You might have already read the original version, but this one has been professionally edited and makes me sound smarter and more insightful. Copies are available at Chapters or through the Alternatives website!

Happiest Woman
Oh disaster upon disasters, I left my camera cord in a different city! While I wait patiently for the mailman's arrival, I took some photobooths of today's lazy outfit.
Misfits shirt from eBay, galaxy leggings from Black Milk, sparkly orchid headband courtesy of VeeChay Millinery
Also, thanks to a tip from an anonymous commenter I have discovered a genius new blog! It's a tumblog called One Big Sonic Boom and it is basically just scans of all these amazing old concert posters of rad bands, old music fanzines etc. It is completely fantastic and here are a few of my favourites.
